The process by which a seed grows into a plant is called germination. It begins with the hydration of the seeds and ends with the emergence of the radicle from the seed coat. It is the resumption of growth after dormancy. The five steps of seed germination are : imbibition, respiration, effect of light, mobilization of reserves and growth regulators, development of radicle into seedling.
