What does it mean when the compressibility factor, Z, rises above a value of 1 in the graph shown on the screen? Provide a physical explanation that might account for this.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Introduction

Compressibility of gas (Z) is the ratio of the volume of a gas at a particular temperature and pressure to the volume of an ideal gas at the same temperature and pressure. The gas compressibility is not the same as the gas compressibility factor. Reduced properties like reduced temperature and reduced pressure are also included in the formulation of the Peng-Robinson equation of state, a model intended to achieve fair accuracy around the critical point in order to define the compressibility factor.
