Question

What do you mean by unicellular glands?

Expert Solution
Step 1

A group of cells in the body of animals that helps in the synthesis of substances or hormones and release them in either the bloodstream or outer surface is known as Gland. Glands are further divided into two types depending upon their functions :

Step 2
  1. Endocrine Gland - These glands do not contain ducts. They directly release their substances (hormones) in the blood. Some examples of endocrine glands are Pituitary Gland, Adrenal Gland, Thymus etc.
  2. Exocrine Gland - These glands secrete their products either to the outer or inner side of the body through ducts. The products released are mainly mucous from mucous glands, sweat from serous gland or products from sebaceous glands.

These glands could be unicellular as well as multicellular.
