Oxygen is important for respiration as it converts food into energy form called ATP where cells of microorganisms use this energy do work. Presence of oxygen termed as aerobic and absence of oxygen is called anaerobic.
Based on mode of respiration bacteria can be divided into aerobic and anaerobic. Each of them is further divided into two types, obligate and facultative.
