What did the broad base of age pyramid indicates?
Age pyramids represent the number of age and sex of a given population. Population is divided into 3 categories- pre reproductive, reproductive and post reproductive.
On the basis of the number of individuals in these 3stages – population can be expanding, stable or shrinking.
Thus, age pyramid helps to understand the population growth for upcoming time.
In the age pyramid, pre reproductive (age 0-14) individuals are seen on base of graph, middle part shows reproductive (15-55) individuals and upper part shows post reproductive individuals (more than 55).
Expanding population has less death rate and more birth rate , while constrictive population shows opposite scenario. And stable population shows almost equal birth and death rate.
