The Frank-Starling Law
According to the Frank-Starling law, the force or tension created in a muscle fiber is proportional to how far the fiber is stretched. Increased blood flow into the heart (raising preload) causes the heart walls to stretch in a clinical scenario.
The Frank-Starling Law describes myocyte stretch and contractility in relation to cardiac hemodynamics. Because myocyte stretch causes a more forceful systolic contraction, the Frank-Starling Law predicts that the stroke volume of the left ventricle will increase as the left ventricular volume increases.
