study?

Expert Solution
Introduction

Symbolic Interactionism is a micro-level theory defining individuals’ interaction with others in society and the meanings people assign to things and how everything in society is a symbol. Accordingly, people react. Herbert Blumer coined the term symbolic interactionism and it was supported by G.H.Mead, Max Weber, etc.

Explanation

Religious engagement is one's subjective experience in which an individual establishes a relationship with the supernatural or divine.

Symbolic interactionists study the manner in which people practice their beliefs and interrelate with one another. It tries to explore the answers behind how people reach such conclusions of considering a thing as sacred or profane and at the same tie what symbols people attach with the gestures and delves into the question that why such symbols are not universal throughout. They try to substantiate that individuals are affected psychologically with religion because it is all happening in the social interaction process and gives social identity.

Rituals and ceremonies are the manifestations of one's expressions in varied forms. They are intense and carries particular ideas in a specific society. It explores that the same symbol which is considered sacred can be profane in another society because the interaction process and symbolism are entirely different from one to another.
