Question

What are the three CNS regions that regulate autonomic function?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The central nervous system (CNS) helps to control many functions of the body and its mind that consists of two parts that are the brain and the spinal cord. The brain is the center of our thoughts which is the interpreter of our external environment and also the origin of control over the movement of the body.

Step 2

The CNS is the central part of the nervous system, it is so named because the brain integrates the information which is received and coordinates and also influences the activity of all parts of the bodies. The central nervous system (CNS) contains the brain and the spinal cord. The brain plays a important role in the control of many body functions that includes awareness, movements, sensations, thoughts, speech, memory etc. The spinal cord is attached to a section of the brain called as brainstem and pass through the spinal canal. Cranial nerves depart the brainstem.

The central nervous system consists of three regions or loops:-

1) The short-term brainstem-spinal loops.

2) The limbic brain-hypothalamic-brainstem-spinal cord loops mediating anticipatory and stress responses.

3) The intermediate length hypothalamic-brainstem-spinal cord loops.
