The major determinants of social stratification are as follows-

Power- This gives an individual the ability to impose one's will on other individuals and groups.
Prestige- When a person is respected by others then he/she is automatically granted a higher position in society.
Property and wealth- This gives an individual the economic strength to dominate others.
High level of occupation- An individual who holds a high post is held in high esteem in society.
Education- An individual having a high educational qualification is not only respected in society but also is given the best employment opportunities.
Caste- In a caste-based society, an individual having a high caste position is considered to hold a dominant position.
Class- A person belonging to a higher class is considered to be holding a higher position in the social stratification system.
