What are the main advantages of Delta Modulator over PCM?
Quantization and Resolution
Quantization is a methodology of carrying out signal modulation by the process of mapping input values from an infinitely long set of continuous values to a smaller set of finite values. Quantization forms the basic algorithm for lossy compression algorithms and represents a given analog signal into digital signals. In other words, these algorithms form the base of an analog-to-digital converter. Devices that process the algorithm of quantization are known as a quantizer. These devices aid in rounding off (approximation) the errors of an input function called the quantized value.

What are the main advantages of Delta Modulator over PCM?
Pulse code modulation (PCM) and delta modulation (DM) are both extremely efficient. However, delta modulation has some inherent advantages over pulse code modulation. They are listed below:
1. The transmission and receiving circuit of delta modulation is much simpler compared to that of pulse code modulation.
2. The quantizer used in DM has only 2 levels and hence it is much more cost-efficient compared to that of PCM.
3. DM is very bandwidth efficient since only 1 bit per sample is transmitted. In PCM, however, the bandwidth requirement is much higher as the number of bits transmitted per sample is more than 1.
