What are the functions of light-harvesting and
reaction center chlorophylls?
Introduction
Light harvesting complexes are the complex or proteins and chlorophyll molecules which are present in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast.
Light harvesting complex (LHC) are also known as antennae complex which comprises of chlorophyll b, xanthophyll and carotenes. They are found in the apex region of the reaction centre.
Reaction centre is the main component of the photosystems which are found embedded in thylakoid membrane in photosynthetically active plants and BGA (Blue Green Algae)/ Cyanobacteria. Reaction centre contains the main chlorophyll a molecule. Which gets oxidised after receiving energy from the LHCs or Antennae complex.
