The formation of the earth can be dated back to around 4.5 billion years ago. Initially earth was a hot mass of gases and lava, however in later years by combined physical, chemical and biological processes the earth cooled. In the process of cooling and evolution the first to develop were the waterbodies, like the oceans, seas, lakes, lagoons etc., by the process of condensation. Subsequently emerged the atmosphere and oxygen was introduced to the atmosphere. In the process of cooling the earth differentiated into four prominent mineralogically differentiated layers, viz., the crust, the mantle, the outer and the inner core.
