Skeletal muscle is an organ of the muscular system and it is one of the chief muscle types in the body.
The skeletal muscles are organs made up of a variety of integrated tissues. Blood vessels, skeletal muscle fibers, connective tissue, and nerve fibers are examples of integrated tissues. Each skeletal muscles possess three layers of connective tissue, epimysium, perimysium, and endomysium. Epimysium is a dense, irregular connective tissue that covers each muscle and it permits the muscle to constrict and move smoothly.
Inside the skeletal muscles, fascicles are bundles formed by the organization of muscle fibers. The muscle fiber organization into bundles is achieved by the perimysium, a middle layer. Inside the fascicle, muscle fibers are enclosed in the endomysium, a thin connective tissue of collagen and reticular fibers.
