Stress to any organism is the component of strain that they feel on account of something physical or psychological that they are bearing on themselves. In purely psychological terms, stress is any component that makes the individual feel pushed or pressured, and uncomfortable.
Elements or factors that cause stress are known as stressors. Stressors are different for each individual, as much of what constitutes depends on individual personality, experiences, coping style, and resilience. Stress is at times even a component that motivates individuals to perform better, though in low intensity or duration.
Stressors are can be categorized to be originating from multiple factors: biological, psychological, or even social or cultural. Let us look at sociological and cultural stressors.
Sociological factors are any component that involves interaction with another, apart from the self. Sociological stressors can be:
- Difficult/new relationship or marriage
- New or challenging workplace factors like colleagues or boss
- Migration
- Retirement
- Change in social and economic status
- Being in the focus of social settings due to race, ethnicity, gender, age
- Social isolation
