What are closed questions?
Closed questions are those on a questionnaire with set answer groups, whereas open or closed questions can be used in interviews or casual conversations.
Closed-ended questions begin with the words 'May,' 'Did,' 'Will,' or 'Have.' They are most often in the form of multiple-choice questions, in which respondents must select from a preset set of choices.
'Are you upset about it?' is a closed question, implying a yes/no response, whereas 'What are your views on that?' is an open-ended question with an infinite number of potential responses. In stressful or uncomfortable social settings, open-ended questions are more effective at breaking the ice or eliciting answers. A closed-ended question is also known as a closed-ended question.
