Introduction:
A business rule in the database design is a written constraint that is required to be applied in the database to make sure the specific requirement are implemented correctly in the database.
These are generally the simple English like sentences which include one or more entities and then the relationship rule between that OR a single entity and a constraint on an attribute in the entity.
Importance:
The business rules are important as these make sure that:
1. Each entity is considered in the design.
2. The relationship is mentioned for each entity.
3. This Shows how the entities are connected with each other.
4. all database facts to be stored are listed in the rules.
Example:
Consider the example of a donation company that needs to store the donations, donors. The database will have below business rules:
1. Donor will be stored based on a unique ID.
2. Donations will be stored based on a unique ID.
3. Each donor will make atleast one donation but can have many donations.
4. A donation wil be made by exactly one Donor.
