Using sociological theories, explain how a society changes
- Using sociological theories, explain how a society changes. Focus on only one or two theorists' ideas.
Emile Durkheim in his theory "Mechanical Solidarity and Organic Solidarity" explains how a society changes. Society changes from simple to complex, division of labour also increases as new roles are required thus there is an increasing differentiation of units.
In mechanical solidarity the society is simple and primitive, and also there is strict restrictions, intensity and rigidness of collective consciousness is high. Here Dependence on Others is less. And there were Repressive /Penal Laws which provides strict punishments for the deviance.
In Organic solidarity, the society is modern and there is individualisation and Specialization. There is less collective consciousness and there is restrictive law , which is not that much strict they have to pay fine.
