Using illustrative examples contrast the following Essentialist and constructivist theories of gender
An explanation of known facts that is well-substantiated through application of laws, hypotheses and facts, thereby allowing predictions about some of the possible futures to be observed if found true is called a theory. Theory expands the horizon of our understanding through explanation of "why" an action is to be taken. It provides guiding rules or principles on "how" something is to be done. Within the discipline of sociology there are two broad classifications of theories-macro and micro. Theories are categorized as one type or the other depending on their orientation or focus. So while macro-theories focus on explaining the behavior of large groups or even an entire society (or societies), micro theories seek to analyze the behavior of small groups or particular type of individuals.
