Question

Use the following balanced equation to answer the question:

2 NaOH + H2SO4  ------> 2 H2O + Na2SO4

How many grams of H2O is produced from a reaction that  produces 6 moles of NaOH?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The given balanced equation,

2 NaOH + H2SO4  ------> 2 H2O + Na2SO

From the balanced equation,

2 mol NaOH produces 2 mol H2O

6 mol NaOH produces ? mol H2O

Number of moles of H2O produced = 6 mol NaOH×2 mol H2O2 mol NaOH = 6 mol H2O

1 mol H2O means 18.0 g of H2O

6 mol H2O means ? g of H2O

Mass of H2O produced = 6 mol H2O×18.0 g H2O1 mol H2O = 108 g

Mass of H2O produced for 6 moles of NaOH = 108 g
