Expert Solution
Step 1

The sun is the source of all the energy on our planet. The producers absorb sunlight and use it to create matter from smaller matter. The sun's energy is used to drive the photosynthesis process, continuously renewing the energy lost to the atmosphere as heat from the processes of life. Plants, many bacteria, plant-like protists and even protists are included in the autotrophs, also known as the producers.Photosynthesis is conducted by these organisms and inorganic matter creates the fundamental organic matter. The energy from sunlight is most frequently absorbed by chlorophyll. The use of nutrient nutrients (i.e. H2O, nitrates, etc.) allows the processing of matter by autotrophs at higher trophic levels. The use of nutrient nutrients (i.e. H2O, nitrates, etc.) allows the processing of matter by autotrophs at higher trophic levels. Part of the matter they generate for energy production is broken down by producers (yes, plants have metabolic processes other than photosynthesis!)
