Question

Use the data below to determine the rate law of the following reaction

A + 2B -> C + D

Experiment [A] [B] Initial Rate (M/s)
1 0.16 0.2 2.2
2 0.16 0.1 1.1
3 0.32 0.1 2.2

What is the reaction rate constant k? You will need to refer to your previous answers and recall that rate=k[A]x[B]

Expert Solution
Step 1: Defination of rate constant

The rate of the reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of the reactants. So when the balanced sign is omitted then a proportionality constant is used. That proportionality constant is called a rate constant.

So, the rate constant is the rate of the reaction when the concentration of the reactants is 1.

it is represented as k.
