Then think how easy it would be to push the box if it was empty. The full box is harder to move because it has greater mass and therefore greater inertia. An object's motion changes (or accelerates) when it is acted on by an unbalanced force. A force is unbalanced if the net (total) forces acting on object is not zero. Acceleration depends on the size of the force and the mass of the object.
