As per the ACA code of ethics, it is not advisable for counsellors to impose their personal values on their clients. Counselors help their clients to deal with a difficult time of their life and help them handle the complex nature of life. The primary goal of counselling is to promote the welfare and good mental health of the client and to respect the client's dignity and vulnerabilities. The counselor should be competent and must practice sensitivity to certain personal issues which may arise from one's gender, culture, religion or any other social factor. The counselor should thus respect the feelings of the client and should be culturally sensitive.
