Two solutions, A and B, are separated by a semipermeable membrane. Predict whether there will be a net flow of water in one direction and, if so, which direction if A is 0.10M NaCl and B is 0.20 M glucose. Click in the answer box to display choices. Expert Solution
Step 1

Semipermeable membrane :-

A membrane which allows only solvent molecules to pass through it but not solute molecules is called semipermeable membrane.

For example :-

Parchment paper , cellophane paper , pig's bladder , cell membrane .

Osmosis :-

The process of flow of solvent from dilute solution to concentrated solution through semipermeable membrane is called osmosis.

Osmosis takes place if there is difference in chemical potential or concentration of two solutions which are separated by semipermeable membrane .

If concentrations of two solutions are equal there will be no net flow of solvent and no osmosis.
