Genotype refers to the genetic makeup of an organism, whereas phenotype refers to the traits that are present in a gene. Allele pairs are generally referred to as homozygous alleles or heterozygous alleles. Dominant alleles are those which produce complete effects in a heterozygote, whereas recessives alleles are not fully expressed in the phenotype of a heterozygote. Recessive alleles tend to get expressed only in a homozygous condition.
The Punnett square is a graphical representation that is used to predict the genotypes of a specific cross. It is capable of determining the probability of offspring genotype.
