Stone columns are the method used for ground improvement technique. It is an alternative to pile foundation.
Stone column are used for improving the soil condition. It helps in reducing compressibility and permeability and also increasing bearing capacity of soil .The use of stone columns prevents from liquefaction in future years, thus controlling the settlement of soil. Stone column is made up of several crushed coarse aggregates of various sizes . These are the vertical columns in soil up to a depth of 4 m below ground level. These densify the soil and act as a reinforcement
