Tutorial 2 - Basic Circuit Concepts V source A E 202 B 30 50 D
Hi, can you help me answering the following questions for the circuit attached? We know that the total current is 0.5A and the resistors resistance is showing in the picture.
For the circuit in Figure 1, if we know the total current is 0.5A then answer the following:
1. What is VCD? Show it on Figure 1 using an arrow.
2. What is VDC? Show it on Figure 1 using an arrow.
3. What is VAB? Show it on Figure 1 using an arrow.
4. What is VBA? Show it on Figure 1 using an arrow.
5. What is ICD?
6. What is IAB?
7. Calculate, in 2 DIFFERENT WAYS, the value of Vsource.
8. What is VDB? Show it on Figure 1 using an arrow.
9. Calculate the power dissipated in each resistor.
10. Calculate the total power from Vsource.
11. How does the total power from Vsource (calculated in part 10) compare to the sum of
the powers calculated in part 9? Explain why this should be the case?
12. Calculate VAD and VAE. Explain the result.
For question 13 onwards, assume that we have 5 components at our disposal: a 2Ω resistor,
a 3Ω resistor, a 5Ω resistor, a 5V battery and a 15V battery.
13. Design 2 circuits using the 5 given components which will result in a current of 1A
circulating in a clockwise direction around your circuit.
14. Design 1 circuit which has a current of 5A circulating in an anti-clockwise direction.
15. Design a circuit which has 2.86A circulating in a clockwise direction.

16. Use ALL the components to get 1A circulating anti-clockwise.
