Traditional view argues that there is natural connection between gender and sex (defined in terms of body characteristics). This means that if you are born a female you will experience the world in a feminine way and if you are born a male you will experience the world in a masculine way. O True O False

Sex is the biological characteristic that determines whether the individual is a male or a female. The last pair of chromosomes is responsible for assigning the sex of the child. If the chromosome pairing is XX, then the sex of the child will be identified as female, however, if it is XY then it will be identified as male. These genes then participate in the formation of genitals which eventually leads to the sex determination of a child. A child with the XY chromosome pair will have a penis and will be identified as male. On the other hand, a child with XX chromosome pair will have a vagina and will be identified as female.
Gender is the cultural and social term given on the basis of gender roles - what behaviour or activities should men and women do. These gender roles are often considered to go hand in hand with the sex of the individual i.e. a person born with female genitalia must behave the way a woman does and likewise for men. However, gender and sex do not go hand in hand. The gender that an individual chooses to identify with may not always be the same as his sex because gender is a social construct.
