Unitary Method
The word “unitary” comes from the word “unit”, which means a single and complete entity. In this method, we find the value of a unit product from the given number of products, and then we solve for the other number of products.
Speed, Time, and Distance
Imagine you and 3 of your friends are planning to go to the playground at 6 in the evening. Your house is one mile away from the playground and one of your friends named Jim must start at 5 pm to reach the playground by walk. The other two friends are 3 miles away.
Profit and Loss
The amount earned or lost on the sale of one or more items is referred to as the profit or loss on that item.
Units and Measurements
Measurements and comparisons are the foundation of science and engineering. We, therefore, need rules that tell us how things are measured and compared. For these measurements and comparisons, we perform certain experiments, and we will need the experiments to set up the devices.
A missile is shot upward from a submarine 1280 ft below sea level as shown below. The initial velocity of the missile is 682 ft/sec. A function that approximates the height of the missile (relative to sea level) is given by h(t) =-16t +682t –1280 where h(t) is the height in feet and tis the time in seconds. Answer the following questions in complete sentences. Note: to eam credit for parts b) and c) you must use algebra!
a) The point (3, 592) is on the graph. Interpret what this means in terms of height and time of the missile launch. (Note: "Interpret" means to explain using complete sentences
b) Solve algebraically (round values to the nearest tenth): What is the maximum height of missile? How long after launch does it take the missile to reach that height? Show your work! Answer the question in a sentence.
c) Solve algebraically: How long after launch long does it take the missile to plunge back into the water? Show your work and answer the question in a sentence. Round to the nearest tenth.
