Oxidizing agent: The species which oxidize the other elements by taking electrons from them . When it takes electrons , it gets reduced itself.  So a oxidizing agent oxidizes other elements but get reduced itself. It means the oxidation number of oxidizing agent decreases from left to right. 

Reducing agent: The species that reduces the other elements by giving them electrons.  By losing electrons, it is oxidized itself . So a reducing agent reduces other elements but get oxidized itself. It means the oxidation number of reducing agent increases from left side to right side.
