synthesis of Chloropentaamminecobalt(III)
The equations of the preparation of [Co(NH3)5CI]CI2 are written:
CoCl2 + NH4CI + NH3 + H2O2 → [Co(NH3)5CI]Cl2 + H2O
For experiment used:
- 3g of ammonium chloride
- In a fume hood, dissolve the weighted ammonium chloride in 10 mL
concentrated aqueous ammonia
- adding 3.00 g finely divided CoCl2-6H2O
- 7 mL of 30% hydrogen peroxide
10 ml of conc. HCl
- wash it three times with 30 mL diluted HCI (1:1).
Note: I collected 2.774 grams of Chloropentaamminecobalt(III) at the
end of this experiment.
Experimental Calculations:
1- Theoretical weight of the precipitate =
Molecular weight of the product X Weight of the reacted substance
gm
Molecular weight of the reacted substanc
2- Experimental weight of the precipitate = 2.774 gm
Experimental weight of the precipitat
3- Yield of the reaction =
X100 =
Theoretical weight of the precipitat
4- Percentage weight of each element =
Atomic eight of the elements X no of its atom
X100 =
Molecular weight of the comple
