The University of Rochester Alumni and Advancement Center (AAC) is looking to analyze trends among donors. In particular, they have a sample of 94 donors who gave a gift in response to a recent solicitation. Suppose you have been hired by the AAC to analyze trends among the donors. The data are stored in the file donors.csv. For each question: Provide appropriate summaries (both graphic and numeric) to begin exploring the data.
Permutations and Combinations
If there are 5 dishes, they can be relished in any order at a time. In permutation, it should be in a particular order. In combination, the order does not matter. Take 3 letters a, b, and c. The possible ways of pairing any two letters are ab, bc, ac, ba, cb and ca. It is in a particular order. So, this can be called the permutation of a, b, and c. But if the order does not matter then ab is the same as ba. Similarly, bc is the same as cb and ac is the same as ca. Here the list has ab, bc, and ac alone. This can be called the combination of a, b, and c.
Counting Theory
The fundamental counting principle is a rule that is used to count the total number of possible outcomes in a given situation.
How r-codes do I need to answer question 5?
![The University of Rochester Alumni and Advancement Center (AAC) is looking to analyze trends among
donors. In particular, they have a sample of 94 donors who gave a gift in response to a recent solicitation.
Suppose you have been hired by the AAC to analyze trends among the donors. The data are stored in the
file donors.csv.
For each question:
• Provide appropriate summaries (both graphic and numeric) to begin exploring the data.
• Assess all assumptions needed for performing the corresponding test to answer the question of interest.
• Determine the most appropriate test and perform it.
- Make sure to state your hypotheses, the test statistic, and p-value.
Interpret the results and summarize your findings.
The more robust your responses are, the better. Think of this as you having been hired and you are in charge
of running all applicable analyses and putting together a nice report of what you have found.
Use a significance level of a = 0.05 for this entire project.
1. Examine the affiliation of the donor (affiliation, either undergraduate alumni, graduate alumni,
parent, or friend). Each donor falls into only one category. Based on past solicitations, it is believed
that donations are equally likely from each of the affiliations. Does this appear to still be true?
2. Examine the age of donors (age, in years) by type of donation (type, either academic or medical). Does
the average age of donors differ based on the type of donation? In addition to answering this question,
calculate the power of the parametric test to detect a difference of 4 years in age.
3. Examine time since last donation (time, in days) by affiliation (affiliation). Does the average time
since last donation differ based on affiliation? AAC staff would like to know whether alumni wait less
time between donations than non-alumni (i.e. parents and friends), whether undergraduates wait less
time between donations than graduate alumni, and whether friends wait less time between donations
than parents.
4. Examine type of donation by sex. In particular, is the type of donation related to the sex of the donor?
5. Consider only donations made by graduate alumni (i.e. affiliation=="Graduate Alumni"). For these
donors, is the type of donation related to their sex?
6. How can donation amount (amount, in US dollars) be best predicted? To examine this question, make
summary plots and display basic numerical summaries. Use a model selection method (with appropriate
justification as to why you choose it) to determine the predictors you feel best predict donation amount.
Then, fit the resulting model, assess the model assumptions, discuss the significance of the model and
predictors, and generally discuss how well you believe the model works in describing donation amount.](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2F5e5d3535-e2bc-4b4a-93dd-d64630b2d4eb%2F046fc2ec-c3d5-430e-8ed6-815d983aa687%2F464118f_processed.png&w=3840&q=75)
