Because of their distinct structure, myoglobin and hemoglobin have slightly different characteristics. The oxygen binding curve is a standard way of describing these various features (also called the oxygen dissociation curve when the curve is read backward). The oxygen–hemoglobin dissociation curve (ODC) is a curve that displays the fraction of hemoglobin in its saturated (oxygen-laden) form on the vertical axis against the prevailing oxygen tension on the horizontal axis.
