![Figure 1:
There is a rock here.
The woman in the picture above is using the hunting weapon known as a sling. You
might (or might not) have heard of this weapon in a story of David and Goliath. To use
the sling, she puts a rock in a pocket at the end of a rope. She then twirls the rope in a
circular motion over her head. When she is ready, she releases the rock and it flies
away from her.
The diagram below (Figure 2) shows the same situation schematically as it would be
seen from above.

In Figure 2, the rock is moving around a horizontal circle in a clockwise direction (as
seen from above). When the woman is ready to throw the rock, she releases it from a
point on the right-hand edge of the circle.
After the rock is released (at the point indicated by the purple arrow and the words
"the rock is released here"), it will most closely follow which of the dashed red paths
shown below in Figure 3? (The paths are labeled A through G, and they are also shown
from above, as in Figure 2.)](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2F851901a2-7275-4527-968f-3a9a98cde9f0%2Fb98af51b-a57b-41a5-873a-0497d0324d85%2Fo4smchlj_processed.png&w=3840&q=75)

Step 1 Explanation
The rock is moving in a circular path. SO, due to the motion of the circular, the force is acted away from the center. This force is called centripetal force
