The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides ratings on all tire lines marketed in the USA. Using their Uniform Tire Quality Grading System (UTQGS), tires are evaluated in terms of their tread ware, traction performance and temperature resistance. The dataset to be analyzed includes all tires manufactured by the Korean tire giant Hankook. There are 7 variables: Tire Line, Construction, Size, Traction Rating, Temp Rating, Wear Rating and Speed Rating. This assignment will only be analyzing the variable Traction Rating. Traction ratings are an indication of a tire's ability to stop on wet pavement. A higher rated tire should allow a car to stop on wet roads in a shorter distance than a tire with a lower rating. Traction is rated from highest to lowest as "AA", "A", "B", and "C". Tire ply composition and mater used MANUFACTURER U.S. DOT safety standard code Load index& speed symbol TREADWEAR Traction TRACTIONA Diameter of wheel in inches Radial ATURE A 68 ST/zd TIRE NAME Max. cold inflation & load limit Passenger car tire Width of tire in millimeters Ratio of height to width (aspect ratio) Using the data provided, answer the following questions and perform the following analysis. 1) What are the experimental units in this dataset? 2) How many experimental units are in the dataset? 3) What type of variable is Traction Rating? (i.e. is it Qualitative-Nominal, Quantitative-Discrete, etc.). 4) Construct a one-way contingency table for the variable Traction Rating. Include both the frequencies and relative frequencies for the categories. Do not forget to include a column for the Totals. 5) Display the relative frequencies from part 4 in a bar chart. Be sure to properly label the figure and include all pertinent information. 6) Would you say Hankook tends to construct quality tires, or cheap ones? Provide a data driven justification for your conclusion.
