The outbreak of plague in Europe between 1347 and 1352 is known as Black Death. The term was coined in 1800 and refers to the black growth in the various regions of body when infected by plague. It came to Europe from the East and was a combination of pneumonic, septicemic, bubonic and septic plague. The plague was caused by fleas of rats which carried bacterium Yersinia pestis, the rats spread between regions through troops and trade. The disease was believed to be wrath of God as the people were unaware of its causes. It entered Europe through Genoese trading ships, it was already killing people in the East as early as 562 CE.
