DEEP PACKET INSPECTION.
What is it? What are its positive uses?
What are its negative uses? Give examples. Consider network security, censorship, management of network traffic, privacy, and any other relevant areas.
DEEP PACKET INSEPCTION(DPI):
- another names for DPI is packet sniffing/filtering, extraction of information(information extracting)
- DPI is to asses the packet's header and data part, which will be spread by inspection point, spam, intrusion and other criteria which will block the packets that needed to be pass by inspection point.
- This will also help in intrusion prevention and detections as DPI is embedded to network securities.
USES:
- POSITIVE:
The DPI have many users and it helps the users in both detection and prevention of intrusion. It will detect the attack on firewall, intrusion prevention/detection system which cannot be detected adequately. helps the users in network traffic flow
- NEGATIVE:
if the user's of the organization/business firm has laptops for their work, the DPI will be crucial incase of virus, spyware, worm prevention before it enters the network. DPI is based on polies/rules designed by users and it allows the network to find out whether the users are prohibited. in case for potential user, it will detect either sender/receiver, so their is worry in privacy. which user can get the data.
