Step 1: Find an example of text Find an example from your own life when literacy in written words, the dominant language of our age, had a profound impact on your identity, culture and/or understanding of the world. These can be any words written, typed or printed using an alphabet (as defined by Apkon ) that you believe had "psychic and social consequences" for you at any point in your life. Try to think outside the box in selecting your example -- books, IG captions, email newsletters, text messages, handwritten letters, children's books, textbooks, news articles, text-dominant posters and flyers, magazines, and more! There can be as many or as few words in it as you want, just make sure you can justify and explore the impact of the message communicated through your ability to perceive meaning from the text alone. What does NOT count: lyrics from a song (unless you saw them written somewhere first), a saying someone used to tell you or anything where you can't identify and describe the first time you read the words or the medium through which you read them.
