Should axial despersion be avoided?
Should axial despersion be avoided?
It is to be stated whether axial dispersion should be avoided or not.
Axial dispersion must be avoided due to the following reasons.
1. This type of dispersion decreases the desired efficiency for separating the two components.
2. The separators which were behaving like a multistage initially will be now behaving as a single stage in equilibrium due to the effect of axial dispersion.
3. The concentrations at the 2 ends of flow is reduced as compared to original.
4. A taller column is required to separate the components in axial dispersion due to the decrease in the average driving force for the solute mass transfer between any of the 2 given phases.
5. Axial dispersion is found mostly in spray columns, packed columns and RDCs.
