Step 1 Introduction

Superpave Mix Design- One of the method of the construction of the roads in which asphalt binder and aggregates                                                  selection are ties for the mix design process. Climatic conditions and traffic volumes are also taken                                        into account while designing. This method was design to replace Hveem and Marshall method. 

Aggregates selection and design structure-

Aggregates are selected based on the location of the roads where it will be constructed. Various tests are performed while selecting the aggregates like soundness, water absorption and L.A. abrasion etc. 

Various parameters of the aggregates are also taken account like stiffness, workability, fatigue resistance, durability, resistance to moisture, permeability and stability etc.

This process have varies control points which aggregates gradation have to pass.

 

Step 2

Binder selection and design binder content-

Several stockpile of the aggregates having different size and shape are mix together to desired and acceptable ratio aggregates. The above process will give final blended gradation of aggregates.

Moisture susceptibility evaluation -

The performance evaluation of the Bituminous mixture in Superpave mix is done in this process. It is performed since 2002 and the main test performed is modifies Lottman test.
