Select the wrong option a. Gravitational forces of sun and moon are added together in spring tides O b. Neap tides occurs during new moon O c. Tides are more predictable than wind and solar power O d. The Proxigean spring tide is strongest tide
Tides
Tides are defined as the alternate rise and fall of sea level due to gravitational forces of moon and sun and centrifugal force induced due to rotation of earth. Thus, tides are the result of the combined effect of gravitational forces of moon and sun and centrifugal force of earth due to its rotation on its axis.
There are two types of tides.
1. Spring Tides
Spring tides occur at new moon and full moon. On these two days, the sun, moon and the earth are aligned in a straight line and this position is called syzygy position. In this position, since the sun and the moon are aligned, so the gravitational forces of both sun and moon are added and they exert their combine gravitational pull on earth. This causes the sea or ocean to bulge a bit greater than usual.
Neap Tides
Neap tides occur when the sun right angle with the moon. It means both are at right angle. This occurs each seven days after spring tide. In this position, the bulge caused by moon's gravitational force is partially canceled by the sun's gravitational force.
