Scores of an IQ test have a bell-shaped distribution with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 17. Use the empirical rule to determine the following. (a) What percentage of people has an IQ score between
Continuous Probability Distributions
Probability distributions are of two types, which are continuous probability distributions and discrete probability distributions. A continuous probability distribution contains an infinite number of values. For example, if time is infinite: you could count from 0 to a trillion seconds, billion seconds, so on indefinitely. A discrete probability distribution consists of only a countable set of possible values.
Normal Distribution
Suppose we had to design a bathroom weighing scale, how would we decide what should be the range of the weighing machine? Would we take the highest recorded human weight in history and use that as the upper limit for our weighing scale? This may not be a great idea as the sensitivity of the scale would get reduced if the range is too large. At the same time, if we keep the upper limit too low, it may not be usable for a large percentage of the population!
The normal distribution in the center are generally denser and basically less denser at tails. There are two parameters for defining the normal distribution are the mean and standard deviation. The normal distribution curve is defined as the continuous of the probability distribution that is generally symmetrical on both sides of mean that is the right side of the center is a mirror image of the left side
The normal distribution is also called as the bell curve because the probability density graph looks like a bell.
The normal density curves are a symmetric of family single peaked bell shaped density curve. This is described completely by giving its mean and its standard deviation. The value of mean and median are equal to each other
