Provide examples and mechanisms for an antibody-mediated
autoimmune disease directed against a specific organ and one
involving circulating immune complexes.
Some basic information :-
Immune system :- these are the cells or tissues which work together in order to protect our body from infections. The antibodies are released in order to kill the infections.
Auto immune disorder :- in this the body's own immune system starts attacking the healthy cells. Some of the examples are Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, Multiple sclerosis etc.
Mechanisms for an antibody-mediated
autoimmune disease :-
- AGAINST SPECIFIC ORGAN
In this the immune system of the body starts acting against a specific organ. Some of the examples are Addison's disease, Mayesthenia gravis etc.
Understanding the mechanism with the help of example.
- Addison's disease:- in this the immune system attacks the Adrenal Cortex ( outer part of the Adrenal glands present above the kidneys)
- Mayesthenia gravis - in this disorder the neuromuscular ( junction between the nerves and the muscle cells) junctions are affected.
CONCLUSION :- The basic mechanism involves the process in which the antibodies binds to the healthy cells of a specific organ and gives commands to destroy them or sometimes lead to malfunctioning of that particular organ.
