Expert Solution
Step 1

When acetone is treated with phenol in presence of Sulfuric acid, then bisphenol- A is formed.

Initially , acetone reacts with Hydrogen ion or proton, given by Sulfuric acid, then protonated acetone is formed.

Protonated acetone, reacts with phenol then addition compound is formed.

It releases water Molecule to give  dehydrated carbocation, which reacts with another Molecule of phenol to remove Hydrogen ion and give final product bisphenol-A.
