Protractors - A protractor is used to measure the angle two faces of a component. The instrument consists of two arms, which can be set along the faces of components. In ordinary protractor the base of the instrument from one arm as shown in the figure below. In the inch system, the unit of angle measurement is degree, minute and second. The ordinary protractor is graduated in degrees and measures angle only in degrees. Full circle = 360 degree (360") I degree = 60 minutes (1° = 60), I minute = 60 seconds (I' = 60"). • Adjustable protractors are precision tools. They are used in workshops everywhere. Angles between 0° - 180° can be measured. Accuracy = 1°. They have a scale with graduation (1).and an adjustable indicator (2).

Protractors
A protractor is used to measure the angle two faces of a
component. The instrument consists of two arms, which can
be set along the faces of components. In ordinary protractor
the base of the instrument from one arm as shown in the
figure below. In the inch system, the unit of angle
measurement is degree, minute and second. The ordinary
protractor is graduated in degrees and measures angle only
in degrees.
Full circle = 360 degree (360")
I degree = 60 minutes (1° = 60'), I minute = 60 seconds
(I' = 60").
• Adjustable protractors are precision tools. They are used in
workshops everywhere. Angles between 0° - 180° can be
measured. Accuracy = 1°. They have a scale with graduation
(1),and an adjustable indicator (2).
MEASURING SYSTEMS
Protractors
• Procedures for reading simple protractor:
Obtuse angle
1. Work piece is placed on the surface plate using one of the
seating faces.
(more than 90)
2 The blade of the protractor is adjusted so that it contacts
the surface being measured.
3. Included angle is measured off directly on the scale.
