Problem 1: Pitching performance A baseball instructional video claimed it would improve the performances of young pitchers. To test this claim, 20 students each threw 50 pitches Before and After participation in the program, and the number of strikes was recorded.  Is there strong evidence that the effectiveness of the video (measured by After minus Before) depends on the player's initial ability to throw strikes (Before)?   Test an appropriate hypothesis using a significance level of 5% (alpha = 0.05).

Problem 1: Pitching performance
1. Identify the response and predictor variables
2. Perform the analysis:
a) Use SPSS to create the plots necessary to check the Straight Enough Condition (x/y scatterplot, or partial
regression plot)
b) If x/y scatterplots are straight enough, fit a regression model to the data
c) Save the residuals and predicted values
d) Check the Equal Variance Condition using a scatterplot of the residuals against the predicted values, and
against each predictor
e) Think about how the data were collected (random sampling?) by checking the Independence Assumption
f) Make a histogram and a Normal probability plot of the residuals to check the Nearly Normal Condition
3. Interpret the output and draw an appropriate conclusion
