For test tube (A)- In a small beaker, dilute 5 mL of the luminol solution with 10 mL of
distilled water. Add 5 mL of this diluted luminol solution to a test tube. Add 5 mL of the
copper(II) solution to the solution and mix. Obtain 5 ml of the peroxide solution in a
graduated cylinder. Turn off the light in the hood and add the 5 mL of peroxide solution
to the test tube. Time how long the solution glows and record the information in your lab
notebook.
For test tube (B) - Dilute 5 mL of the luminol solution with 5 mL of distilled water
(Note: you should turn the light back on while you are mixing solutions). Add 5 mL of
this diluted luminol solution to a new test tube. Add 5 mL of the copper(II) solution to
the solution and mix. Again, obtain 5 ml of the peroxide solution in a graduated cylinder.
Turn off the light in the hood and add the 5 mL of peroxide solution to the test tube.
Time how long the solution in this test tube glows and record the information in your lab
