(b) A 2498c.c turbocharged four cylinder SI engine produces 323NM
of torque at 8200rpm while consuming 95litres of petrol per
hour. The petrol has density of 740kg/m. The higher calorific
value for the petrol is 46.4M J/kg while the lower calorific value
is 43.4M J/kg. Calculate the following performance measures;
i Brake Power
ii Brake Mean Effective Pressure
i Brake Specific Fuel Consumption
iv Thermal Efficiency
(c) Describe a feasible test procedure to obtain an estimate of the
indicated mean effective pressure of an engine. Include details
of the theory which underpins the test procedure, and any mea-
surement problems or sources of inaccuracy.
