The novel 1984 portrays the theme of betrayal between the characters due to the dictatorial style of government. Most of the betrayal that takes place in the novel involves Winston. Winston is betrayed by O'Brien, one of the inner party members. O'Brien tricks Winston; making him believe that he was a member of the brotherhood instead he was a faithful member of the inner party and was trying to trap Winston.
