Please write a paragraph similar to this but about climate change in American war by Omar
The novel 1984 portrays the theme of betrayal between the characters due to the
dictatorial style of government. Most of the betrayal that takes place in the novel involves
Winston. Winston is betrayed by O'Brien, one of the inner party members. O'Brien tricks
Winston; making him believe that he was a member of the brotherhood instead he was a
faithful member of the inner party and was trying to trap Winston. "They got me a long time
ago, said O'Brien with a mild, almost regretful irony." (pg. 238) This quotation illustrates the
betrayal that was set up by O'Brien towards Winston. Another example of betrayal is when Mr.
Charrington betrays Winston by setting him up for the thought police to catch him red handed
with Julia.
Mr. Charrington came into the room. The demeanor of the black
uniform men became more subdued...something had also
changed in Mr. Charrington's appearance...Winston suddenly
realize whose voice it was that he had heard a few moments ago
on the telescreen. Pg.224
This quotations illustrates how Mr. Charrington betrays Winston and Julia by capturing them
red handed and it also reveals Mr. Charrington's real identity (a member of the thought police).
Another example of betrayal in the novel is when Winston betrays Julia and his love by telling
O'Brien to get Julia, when the hungry rats were about to eat his face but he stops that by
betraying Julia and blaming everything on her.
Do it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia!I don't care what
you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not
me! Julia! Not me! Pg. 286
This quotation shows us how Winston to save his life betrays Julia by blaming everything on
her. Winston basically forgets his love and hope and decides to save his life. So, all these
quotations show that betrayal is caused by the dictatorial style of the government because they
all relate to the government in many ways.
