Problem:

A three bottom 40 cm Disc plough has a working depth of 20 cm, field efficiency is 80% and working speed is 4 km/h. Find the actual field capacity of the plough.

Field efficiency is important in crop production to enhance production and
increase productivity. This is one of the advantages is using machines in crop
production.
Theoretical field capacity is the rate of field coverage of the implement, based on
100 percent time at the rated speed and covering 100 percent of its rated width.
It is computed using the formula:
WI (m) x SI (km/h) x n
Theoretical Field capacity (ha/h) =
1000
Where: WI= width of implement (m)
Sl= speed of implement (km/h)
n= field efficiency
Effective field capacity is the actual area covered by the implement based on its
total time consumed and its width. Effective field capacity is calculated:
WC (m) x SI (km/h) x ŋ
Effective field capacity=
1000
Where: WC= width of coverage (m)
Sl= speed of implement (km/h)
n = field efficiency
Field efficiency (n) is the ratio of effective field capacity and theoretical field
capacity expressed in per cent.
Effective field capacity
Field efficiency=
x 100
Theoretical field capacity
